Art Day in the Capital

Last Saturday my dad and I took a long overdue day trip to London to soak up all, well not quite all, the art that the capital has to offer. Our chosen exhibitions were Grayson Perry's The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever! and the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. Today I thought I would share some pictures of the beautiful art that we saw alongside my ramblings about how lovely everything was, and boy was it lovely!

Q&A

When I am writing on here I often forget that you don't all know everything about me. It's silly really because how would you? I thought it was about time we all got to know each other a bit better and so today I am going to answer some the Qs you may have about me with some As, or at least try to. I hope you enjoy finding out a bit more about the face behind the blog and do let me know how you would answer these questions, I'd love to know.

My Pink Lip Kit

I am no beauty guru, I will admit to that. I mean make-up is actually an area I really struggle with due to my eczema. It is hard to find products that agree with my skin and eyeshadow is an absolute no go for me, so I find bringing colour to makeup looks really difficult. Here's where lips come in! One thing that I can experiment with without any worry is lipstick and I love it. Recently I have jumped right on the pink trend and today I am going to share with you what products I use to achieve a great pink lip.

Card Haul

The process of shopping for cards is one of my favourite things, that is alongside buying presents. I love to find a card that really fits the personality of the person I will be sending it to and whenever I see gorgeous cards I can't help but buy them even if I don't have anyone particular in mind to receive them, hence the collection. Here's a little look at some of my favourite cards and where I got them from, enjoy!

Festival season is upon us, with Radio One's Big Weekend starting today, and with that comes fun, sun and dressing up! Whether or not you are going to be attending a festival this year, this Easy DIY Flower Crown is a great way to get outside, have fun and end up looking good, all at the same time. So invite your friends round and let's get creative...

Style File: The Trousers of Dreams

I don't think that I have ever loved any patterned trousers as much as I love this checked pair that I picked up in H&M last week. This may be because they were a bargain, because I have been looking for a pair just like these for what seems like forever or maybe the novelty of them being new just hasn't worn off yet... who knows? Regardless these are a pair of trousers that I know I will love for a long time and here's why...

5 Books that have influenced me

I have always loved reading. I look at it like exploring; there is always something new and exciting to find in a good book. Over the years I have explored many books, both good and bad, but there are are certain ones that have stuck with me. The reason? They were able to teach me the best lessons about the world and myself, and that is why I want to share them with you today.

Exercise made Easy

Do you think you are too busy to exercise? I know a lot of people do. Many of you are probably thinking that I am mad to think that there is ANY room for exercise in your schedule that is already fit to burst with revision or work. But hear me out. Exercise is a great way to re-energise and refocus yourself and is a proven way of reducing stress, I can vouch for that. What if I told you that I have found a way that you can get a great workout in just ten minutes, leaving you focused and ready for the day? Impossible you say? Well think again...

Album of the Moment: Rumours

Over the last few years vinyl has been making a comeback and I for one am loving it. In recent weeks I have been almost religiously listening to, and loving, Fleetwood Mac's infamous 'Rumours' album, after discovering it about forty years too late. Today I just really wanted to share it with you all in hope that you may find that you love it too.

April Favourites

So far April has been treating me really well, not only has it been Easter (yum!) but the sun has been shining and Paramore have finally released a new song, hallelujah! From skincare to shoes I have discovered so many new favourites so far this month and I thought I would share them with you today because there are some real beauties, including some great new reads. What have you been loving recently?

Easter Treats

Easter is the time of chocolate, sweets and more chocolate and so it only seemed right to do a post on all things sweet to share with you what I will be enjoying this Easter. Yummy!

Style File: Babe you got this

Recently I have been trying to experiment with my style a bit more and make it just a bit more fun, I mean life's to short to wear boring clothes, am I right? It has been a really enjoyable process and has made me see that dressing casually doesn't have to mean slobbing around in jogging bottoms (my arch enemies) but can actually allow you to express yourself in a different way and have a whole lot of fun at the same time.

DIY Geometric Wall Art

Whilst browsing through Pinterest for some interiors inspiration last week I kept coming across amazing geometric walls that people had painted themselves. I loved the idea of doing my own but the idea of committing myself to having a whole wall like that was a bit much so I decided to do a canvas instead to see how it worked out. I was really pleased with how easy and quick it was to do and I know you guys are going to love making your own, so here is an easy guide so you can do just that.

Let's Chill Out: Relaxing Playlist

After struggling to understand the concept of 'me time' for many years, I feel like I have finally realised why it is so important. As much as it can seem selfish taking time for yourself it can, and will, actually make your life a happier one. Everyone has different ways of relaxing, for some reading is the perfect escape, for others a relaxing soak in the bath will do the trick, for me music is the one. I have always loved music and so creating a playlist (see below) to help me chill out seemed logical. I have taken a long time perfecting it and, in my eyes, it is now the perfect playlist to help me wind down after a long days work. I love it and I hope you will too.

Review: Fujifilm Instax Mini 7

Let me introduce you to the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7 Instant Camera. I received this battery powered  camera for my birthday a few years ago after wanting one for a really long time. I have really enjoyed using it and it has allowed me to document some of the best events in my life over the last few years. Today I thought it would be fun to share my thoughts on it with you, so without further ado...

Style File: The First Day of Spring

Today the clouds cleared, the birds started to sing and the sun came out. Spring has officially arrived and I couldn't be more excited! As much as I love layering up for Winter there is something quite liberating about Spring dressing. I delight in no longer having to cover up all of my favourite t-shirts with jumpers or having to think about appropriate footwear (something I don't really own!). Bring it on Spring!

Birchbox: February Review

If you have been following my blog for a while you will know that I have been a fan of Birchbox for a long time. For any of you who don't know, Birchbox is a beauty box subscription service that delivers beautiful products straight to your door every month and I have had subscriptions on and off for the last few years. As my most recent subscription has come to a close I thought I would take the opportunity to do one last review and share with you the gorgeousness of February's box...

Free Printable Calendars / 2

As promised in my first calendar post here is the follow up with the calendars for March, April and May. The problem that I find when I BUY a calendar is that I normally get bored by the theme by the time we reach about May! For this very reason I wanted these calendars to be a bit different from each other and have a bit of variety. I think by keeping the theme fresh it will remind us to actually use the calendar and therefore stay more organised.

Endless Love

This Valentines, or Pal-entines/ Gal-entines Day depending on how you are celebrating it, I decided to send some homemade cards to my friends to tell them how much I appreciate them being in my life. In the last few years I have started to like Valentines Day more and this is because it seems to be more about all kinds of love. It has become a great excuse to say thank you to loved ones for always being there and make sure everyone is feeling the looove.

DIY Pom Pom Cushion

After seeing many a pom pom adorned item in the shops over Christmas I decided I wanted my own pom pom cushion to spruce up my bed. I wanted it to match my other cushion from Next, pictured above, and for it not to be too pricey. After scouring the internet and having no luck finding a decent priced cushion of the right colour, I decided to make my own & here's how you can make one just the same...

All you need to make you very own pom pom cushion is, surprise surprise, some pom poms and, wait for it, a cushion! I know it sounds self explanatory but by buying these items separately and sewing them together you can make the exact cushion that you want for a fraction of the price you would pay for one in the shops.

Bits & Bobs I Bought

In my last post I talked about the lovely shops in Ludlow but didn't show you what I bought, I was saving that for today. There were so many gorgeous things on offer as we pottered around and we could have bought a lot, however, these few things stood out and made it home with us. What lovely things they are!

I have loved the brand Lazy Oaf for a long time and so couldn't quite believe my eyes when we came across these Lazy Oaf cat plates whilst strolling around. They were just sitting outside a shop and were insanely reduced to £2.00 each, due to slight imperfections in the print. We obviously snapped them up immediately and I was so pleased. Maybe one of them will come to university with me but for now they certainly make meal times just that bit more fun.

Exploring Ludlow

One of my favourite things to do is to explore interesting places with interesting shops, restaurants and architecture. This is a love my family share and so last week it seemed fitting that we should venture out of the mist that seems to have been enveloping our house for the last few weeks and take ourselves off to have a good explore. We chose Ludlow, a small town in south Shropshire, as the destination for our adventure because we knew it had lovely independent shops and we hadn't been there for a while. And it is fair to say it didn't disappoint...

The shop '55 Mill Street' is a treasure trove of all things vintage. Everything in it is beautifully arranged and there is just SO much stuff to search through. It is at least three stories of gorgeousness and there is even a courtyard full of fun things for the garden. We really enjoyed having a nosey through all the bits and bobs and only left because we needed to get some food.

Christmas Presents: Gift Boxes

My friends are the sweetest and they always give really thoughtful presents, with this Christmas being no exception. Amongst lots of other beautiful gifts, I was given two separate boxes of goodies by two different people and both were full of loveliness. This is an idea that I hadn't really come across before and I thought that it was so cute that I had to share it with you.

The first box was a 'Friendship in a Box' gift box by Milly Inspired. This is such a well thought out box which celebrates everything amazing about friendship. The items in this box are so carefully chosen and that results in everything having a beautiful meaning, from the tea bag to brew & have a catch up over, to the desk buddy that holds quotes to remind you how important friendship is.

Let's Get Organised: Free Printable Calendar

On New Year's Day I spent several hours looking for a small but beautiful calendar to put on my wall. I didn't want a huge one that would take up buckets of space and I wanted something a little bit different. I ended my internet search without success and to console myself started browsing the Rookie website in hope of gaining a bit of inspiration. As always Rookie delivered the goods and I was soon collaging my own calendar with the intention of sharing it just as they do theirs. Sharing the first few months of my new calendar is, therefore, exactly what I find myself doing today.

One way I organise myself is to make sure I am keeping track of what is going on and when, not only in my own life but in my friends and families lives too, that way it is 1000 times easier to plan spending time together. I find the best way to keep track of everything is to use a monthly calendar, for the main events, alongside a weekly calendar which I fill in at the start of every week to outline the fine details of what is going on.

I made my monthly calendar by collaging pieces of magazines and then overlaying a hand drawn title and day grid. It is a relief for me to (finally!) have my January calendar up & I can't wait to start filling it in.
